It is located between Donja Dubrava in the south, Maksimir in the west, Podsljeme in the northwest and Sesvete in the northeast and east. Most of the surface of Gornja Dubrava is dominated by the hills and slopes of Medvednica and the border between the flatter southern part, and the more hilly northern part is formed by the Trnava stream and the Oporovecka road. The southern part is also more densely built and populated and forms the core of Dubrava, while the northern Podsljeme settlements and the eastern part (Dubec) form the periphery of the district. The settlement of Dubrava was created on the area of its present wider central part (north and south of Dubrava street) which was uninhabited and overgrown with forest, and as the oak was also called dub, hence the later settlement and its name. There is a good connection with public city transport. The bus stop is a few minutes' walk away and there the line 230 (Dubrava - Granesinski Novaki) runs.
